…hello Big Kick!
I had asked my friend Denise of All Things Stamped if she’d like to be a guest blogger for me (you know, since the camera died and I feel like I can’t do anything myself). Well, she readily agreed and she’s written an incredible article for us all about the new Sizzix Big Kick!
Bye Bye Big Shot… Hello Big Kick!
By Denise Bryant
According to Sizzix, Ellison is the acknowledged pioneer of the die cutting industry. Last year I jumped on the die cutting bandwagon and after some comparisons I chose to go with the Ellison Big Shot for a few reasons.
I liked the sturdiness of the base and the overall weight (around 7 pounds) that contributes to it’s stability. It definitely does not rock or tip as the it is low to the table. What I liked most of all was the fact that I can use my all my other die cutting supplies with this one machine.
With the Multipurpose Platform and BISK (Big Impressions Starter Kit) it is possible to convert the Big Shot into a multipurpose die cutting machine and embosser. I have been successful using the Big Shot with my Cuttlebug dies and embossing folders, Sizzix Originals and Sizzlets, Quickutz, Ellison Thin Cuts, Texture Folders and Stampin’ Up! brass templates (using the BISK).
Another great thing about the Big Shot is that you can use all of these different dies to cut more than just paper. Besides cardstock and pattern paper I have been successful at cutting picture mat board, coasters, chipboard, fun foam, and felt.
Now for the bad news (sort of), the Big Shot and all of it accessories have been discontinued. But why if it is such a great and versatile die cutting system?! Well, the good news is that Sizzix has taken this product and re-named it the Big Kick! With some slight design variations the Big Kick looks a lot like the Big Shot and works just as well.
Another great perk is that all Big Shot products are completely compatible with the Big Kick and if you keep an eye on the Sizzix.com website you can purchase Big Shot accessories at steep discounts of 75% off or more!
Sizzix has also started a new product campaign with JoAnn’s and Michaels. Keep your eyes open and your coupons handy. Die cutting adds a wonderful touch to your scrapbooking and card making projects!
Denise also sent along a collection of cards and goodies to share with us—so many that I thought it’d be best to turn them into a slideshow (while at the same time, plugging one of my favorite widget makers, GoodWidgets). Enjoy!:
Be sure to stop by and thank Denise for writing this great review! Isn’t she fabulous? Thanks, Denise! You are such a Rockin’ Girl Blogger!
